The Buildup season occurs from August to November each year. This gives barra fishing enthusiasts another chance to target big barra. Additionally, the Buildup is less crowded than the Runoff with less boats on the water.

As the water temperature drops during the dry season, the larger barra become more dormant or migrate to saltwater locations. As the buildup approaches the humidity rises bringing up the water temperature, signaling to the barra to make their way to the river mouths to breed for the upcoming storms and rain.

This increase in activity throughout the billabongs, creeks, and harbours makes the Buildup an ideal time for anglers to target larger barra. The warmer temperatures and rising humidity creates the perfect conditions for barra fishing.
